I started off buying the 597 model but had to upgrade because of the trouble it had reading my flash drive. It was also really difficult to navigate the music files on my flash drive. The 897 was so much easier to navigate plus it read my drive no problem, I had to have it! My criticisms of the 897 are few, it's a superb unit! I wish it had an internal battery to remember the many settings should you need to unhook the power source. I also wish it had a button that let me decide if I wanted it to re-read my drive-not do it automatically every single time you turn it on! It takes like 3-4 minutes to read my 16gb...that's time I'd rather be listening to music! Just a really big difference in the two top models and the others. If you can spare the extra cash I think you'll be much happier with them than you would be with the less expensive models...Especially if you use a flash drive!
