Don't believe the cool pictures. The aero cross bars were designed for looks and not utility. They are bowed so forget putting anything flat on top.
For kayaks, the boat will end up near the middle of the car, and you cannot load two boats. The curved shape and large plastic attachment to the side rail require that any rack be placed toward the middle where it is hard for loading by one person.
I had a smaller rack than possible of the impreza on a previous Vibe and could load three boats. Very unhappy with these crossbars. The dealer sold them to me before I had a chance to see them. I hope they will trade in for the round bars.
