I am very pleased with this product!

To give some context, this is my first bike rack so I cannot really compare the TieRod build quality against its direct competition (Yakima and Thule), but for the price paid I must say that I am happy that I decided to try Rocky Mounts.

The build quality and finish is very good: The head base seems to be made of metal (or a very sturdy metal-like composite - RackAttack and Backcountry advertise them as solid metal); the aluminum tray is very well made, especially the cut for the disc brake.

The rack fits perfectly on elliptical factory racks (I've a Subaru bar) and, according to some reviews, it will also fit on Yakima round and Thule square bars. It has a very sleek low profile head that seems stylish and aerodynamic.

The lock skewer is nice, it took me some time to first adjust it to my fork but once this one-time setting was done, locking the bike became simple and easy. It also secures my bike quite well in a way that if I rock the bike sideways I have the impression that the rack bars are actually the weakest link in the whole set.

When doing my research I was inclined to go for the well known brands (Yakima and Thule) that offer lifetime limited warranty but I didn't quite appreciate their available racks for factory bars: they looked more like entry level products and I wanted that extra confidence that my bike wouldn't fall and damage my car and, God forbid, whoever could be driving behind me. The Thule and Yakima models that I liked required some weird adapter kits or a new rack and bar - that brought the price point way too high for me.

I decided to give Rocky Mounts a try because of their always positive reviews, the available replacement parts and also because (as silly as it may seem for some) I like to support American companies, especially during these tough times.

Pros:
- Build quality and style (low profile and aerodynamic)
- Lock skewer works very well
- Fits well on elliptical factory bars
- Holds the bike well
- Many available colors

Cons:
- Requires two lock cores to fully lock the rack and bike
- The rear wheel strap looks a bit cheap
- Only 1 year limited warranty (come on Rocky Mounts!!!)

Overall, the product inspires confidence that it is up to the task of transporting my bike securely. It looks very well made and able to last for a long time, despite the weather elements. I have carried my bike on short drives and everything worked perfectly fine, but I am yet to try long distance trips and the impact on fuel economy.

Extra personal info:
- I have the Subaru elliptical factory bar
- My car roof (Forester) is long enough to allow opening the trunk while the bike is mounted (no need to reverse the rack)
- I've opted for the discrete silver color, but the rack looks so cool it makes me wonder if a more noticeable color wouldn't look cooler.
