Product Description

All CURT hitches feature WeatherTite construction, which prevents rusting from the inside out by sealing the main body of the hitch. The receiver tube has an open back end to allow for easy cleaning and for dirt and moisture to pass through and not get trapped as is common with other brands of hitches. All CURT hitches come with mounting hardware and installation instructions. CURT is the only hitch company in the industry that mechanically de-scales all of our hitches before applying a thick powder coat finish, which is baked on for a high-gloss, smooth surface. CURT trailer hitches are simply the most attractive, most durable and toughest hitch on the market.

Curt Manufacturing 13390 Class III Receiver Hitch Review

After learning that my tow mount for my 2010 Outback would have cost $600 dollars at the subaru dealer, I thought this model seemed like a great value and had a couple of advantages over the Subaru version. I really like that it has the 2" receiver port, which has a higher tow capacity and works better with my existing tow-ball mount. It also sits below the bumper so doesn't require cutting a hole in my pretty, new fender. The only downside to this is the 3 or so inches of reduced clearance at the tailgate, which I can't imagine being much of an issue except for in extreme dips.
I installed this on my car myself. I am somewhat handy, but am not a mechanic and found the install to be of medium difficulty. The hardest part was removing the muffler vibration-isolating mounts, which took me much longer and a few more curse words than the directions seemed to think it should have. It also took me a few extra minutes to figure out the trick of fishing the bolts through the frame. That said, the directions were pretty thorough and I never got too lost. It took me about three hours, and the directions said 90 minutes...
Now that it's on the car, I love how low profile and discrete it is under the bumper. It looks very clean and solid and vastly enhances the utility of my subaru Outback. I'd definitely recommend this product to anyone handy, loathing to spend the five or six hundred dollars for a dealership install.
