The instructions for the Reese hitch make no mention of trimming the heat shield and the plastic under panel - both are required. Unfortunately, all Accords since 2011 and the EX model before that, have a plastic under panel in the rear of the car. It believe it's just a finish piece since my 2010 LX did not have the panel to no ill effect that I could see. However, if you wish to maintain that panel, get the Curt Mfg. hitch instead of this one as it takes that panel into account, the Reese does not.

Since I wanted to reuse the rear panel, it required trimming about 1/3 of it away whereas with the Curt product, it's only creating one slice in the panel to accommodate the hitch arm. The Reese fits tighter up against the underside of the car, allowing no room for the panel to be fitted and your only option is to cut away whole sections where the hitch arms are located. Even then, the hitch arms are tight up against the little tangs that are there to hold the fasteners for the panel so I'm not sure if that's going to be a problem or not (noise?).

You will also need to trim the heat shield which should have been provided for in the instructions - it's not optional and that shield has been there on every year of the current generation Accord. You can follow the instructions in the Curt Mfg. hitch downloadable install guide (but then, why not just buy the Curt and avoid these minor hassles).

The hitch fits properly, hardware was easy to install using the fish wires that come with the product and it is on there solid. I will only be using it for a bike rack so will never know how it tows but can't see any reason why it wouldn't work fine with a small, lightweight trailer. For the sake of the $8 differential from this to the Curt, buy the Curt. I went with Reese because I've used their products for many years and this is the first time I ever ran into something that wasn't quite right but it was annoying and now the underside of the rear looks less finished (I know, who goes around looking at the underside of their car).
