Product Description

All CURT hitches feature WeatherTite construction, which prevents rusting from the inside out by sealing the main body of the hitch. The receiver tube has an open back end to allow for easy cleaning and for dirt and moisture to pass through and not get trapped as is common with other brands of hitches. All CURT hitches come with mounting hardware and installation instructions. CURT is the only hitch company in the industry that mechanically de-scales all of our hitches before applying a thick powder coat finish, which is baked on for a high-gloss, smooth surface. CURT trailer hitches are simply the most attractive, most durable and toughest hitch on the market. You won t find better quality and value anywhere!

Curt Manufacturing 13156 Class III Receiver Review

The primary purpose of buying a hitch for my 2001 Qx4 was to haul my motorcycle via trailer. The trailer tongue weight + motorcycle shouldn't be anywhere close to the max tongue weight spec of 500lbs for this Curt 13156 Class3 hitch reciever; nor the 5000lb tow limit. It allows nice fitment for my spare tire when re-stored under the truck, as well.
4 large bolts connect this hitch to the frame rails underneath the truck, similar to the OEM hitch that comes from Nissan/Infiniti. I recently finished a 400mi round trip with a medium duty trailer and my 400lb motorcycle, and the hitch had no issues maintaining the weight and loads.
On the side of design and looks, I think it looks great! The goose-neck curve in the hitch provides for a "hidden" look to the hitch. Only the hitch-2"-box and some of the cross-bar shows. Everything is tucked up and behind the bumper.
One of my suggestions is to make sure you upgrade your suspension if you're planning to tow near or at the hitch limits, or Nissan/Infiniti tow limits specified on the driver side door-jam (which is also 500lb tonge/5000lb load).
I also recently learned of the term GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) really means! I means the amount your suspension can hold above the curb weight. Curb weight is the "dry" weight, from what I understand, which means, no fuel, no oil, no cargo, etc. So, this also takes into account the tongue weight which places a load on the truck's suspension. If you're carrying near the 500lb tongue weight, make sure you account for the GVWR, otherwise you might be overstressing the suspension or the frame.
Another point of advice... use some Anti-seize grease on the 8-bolts that hold the hitch to the frame. this makes it easier to torque down the bolts without getting that hideous metal-metal rubbing sound. Remember, the hitch is not 100% formed to the truck's frame rails, There will be some tight or loose areas when the hitch mates to the frame rails. So as you're tightening down the bolts, the bolts will squeeze the hitch to the frame if there is any space between them.
Also, my brother bought the square-tube equivalent (Curt Hitch 13088). However, he had some tight fitting with the spare tire. We returned the 13088 hitch and will get the 13156 hitch as it allows more space for the spare.
Good luck!
