Airhawk Airhawk R Seat Pad CRUISER-R Review

I purchased the Airhawk R for my 3300 mile round trip journey from Indiana to Arizona which took place in June. This cushion was invaluable as it did everything advertised: kept pressure points from flaring up, and reduces moisture buildup thus avoiding the dreaded "biker butt". I can't say enough good things about this product! I was able to ride 670 miles on the third day of my trip because of the Airhawk.

The biggest benefit is the reduced amount of rest time required when I stopped to stretch my legs, just a 5 minute gas stop was enough to recharge for another 200 mile stretch of pavement.

I ended up not using the straps to attach it to the seat for a couple reasons: 1. I adjusted the air level and location at each stop, 2. At food breaks I'd take it inside with me so it got nice and cool, and 3. For quick restroom breaks you can tuck it away in a saddlebag for safekeeping. The bottom of the cushion is textured and will not slide around while in use.

It is very important to read the directions for proper inflation and positioning. It takes a surprisingly small amount of air to work right. Any more and you're going to create new pressure points by having it overinflated. They recommend a gap of about 1/2 inch between your butt and the seat when you're in your riding position (feet up on pegs/floorboard). To get the right location, make sure your tailbone is right at the indent at the back end of the cushion. You shouldn't feel like sitting on a pillow, in the right spot it should feel just like your stock seat (only way more comfortable!).

So, to wrap up. The cushion is cheaper than a replacement custom saddle, is removable, washable, infinitely adjustable, and most importantly actually works! It's worth the money.
