I wanted a front tire that gave me decent knobby performance in the rough stuff and acceptable feel and longevity during the long pavement purgatory that connects me with my favorite dirt roads and trails. This tire meets these two contradictory challenges very well.

I tour on a 2007 KLR650 loaded with gear and find myself on some pretty rough trails in Baja Mexico, Death Valley and the Sierra Nevada after riding hundreds of miles of super-slab to get there. There is a much more positive feel and confidence on dirt and gravel roads as compared to the more street-oriented D/S tires. At normal speeds on the highway, it feels surprisingly "planted" for a big knobby tire. Most recently, I've been running this tire with a more street-oriented rear tire and it's a great combo for mixed riding in most desert and dry mountainous conditions. It looks like I will get 5000+ miles of mixed hwy/off-road on my first TKC80 front tire.

I run 32-34 PSI fully loaded on the highway and drop it to 24-26 PSI fully loaded on the dirt roads and trails. I always carefully balance the wheel after mounting tires, especially the front. Although this tire is designated "tubeless", using it with a tube is no problem. For me, this tire wears and performs so well and in so many different situations, it deserves its reputation for excellence. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the manufacturer doesn't take the care to mark the sidewall for the placement of the valve stem. Apparently I guessed wrong and had to add 2 1/4 Oz.(!) of weights to balance the wheel.
