Product Description

All CURT hitches feature WeatherTite construction, which prevents rusting from the inside out by sealing the main body of the hitch. The receiver tube has an open back end to allow for easy cleaning and for dirt and moisture to pass through and not get trapped as is common with other brands of hitches. All CURT hitches come with mounting hardware and installation instructions. CURT is the only hitch company in the industry that mechanically de-scales all of our hitches before applying a thick powder coat finish, which is baked on for a high-gloss, smooth surface. CURT trailer hitches are simply the most attractive, most durable and toughest hitch on the market. You won t find better quality and value anywhere!

Curt Manufacturing 13559 Class III Receiver Review

First, I watched a youtube video (etrailers 2010 volvo XC90). That gave me an idea of what to expect and was very helpful.

I lowered the spare tire from the trunk (had to first assemble the multi-part tool and turn counter-clockwise). Used some WD40 and took out the rubber pieces the hold the muffler (3 of them, two at the neck and one by the muffler).

Removed the factory tow plate which has two bolts on the passenger side and kept it out as it does not allow for 3 bolts through it like the hitch needs. That little plate looks small but it's heavy so you don't want it falling on your face like it almost did on mine.

Had the spare tire placed under the muffler neck to keep it from dropping down too far and breaking [my neck].

Used a 5 gallon paint bucket, lying down on its side, which allowed easy left and right movement, to hold the hitch up on the passenger side. Inserted the hitch above the muffler on the driver side. Reinserted the muffler plate below the hitch and bolted both to the body loosely using the original two bolts. Moved the bucket to the middle, right under the hitch received, which held it up nicely and close enough to the chassis on the passenger side. Bolted the passenger side with the two original factory bolts. Added the two additional bolts that came with the hitch, one on each side. Had to use a larger socket on my ratchet for the new bolts.

Reinserted the three muffler rubber supports by holding up the [cold] muffler with the other hand.

Made the mistake of removing the wrapping on the hitch receiver before installing it. Scratched the lowest receiver part on the concrete garage floor in the installation process. Will touch up paint it to deter rust.

Pulling up the spare tire was a little challenging. I had to pull it up half way, push it forward and then pull it up the rest of the way. Otherwise it was getting caught on the hitch in the back.

I hope this verbose comment helps the next person with their installation.
